Foreman Using Taxpayer Resources for Political Smears and Endorsements Ahead of Dumfries Town Election?

It’s another one of those hard-to-believe stories. Incumbent Dumfries Mayor Gerald M. Foreman allegedly posted on doors throughout the town a letter dated April 29, 2016, in which he both endorsed and disparaged several candidates for the Dumfries Town Council ahead of tomorrow’s town elections. Nothing new there, right?

Except he did it on Dumfries town letterhead containing the town seal, a fact the Muckraker was able to confirm by obtaining a copy of the letter, which you can view here. How ethically challenged is Foreman? Who would think it appropriate to use government resources to specifically advocate for or against candidates in an election? The action may be more than just an ethical breach if it violates the state or town code on use of public assets.

In reality, none of this should be too much of a surprise. Foreman was a foot soldier in the Mac Haddow-Pete Candland cabal attempt to unseat Coles Supervisor Marty Nohe. During that effort the Dumfries Mayor canvassed for Haddow-Candland candidate Paul O’Meara. Then, it was Foreman supporters from his failed State Senate run who were involved in the serious misconduct at the PWC Electoral Board. There is clearly a subset of the far-right in Prince William County that thinks the rules simply do not apply to them.
